Police have today revealed that from January 2016 to November 2016, 648 people were fined by Hertfordshire Constabulary for not wearing a seatbelt.

In February 2016 160 people were caught not wearing a seatbelt, in the month before only 24 people were caught and issued fines.

Traffic Sergeant Ian Manley, from the Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: “You are much more likely to be involved in a fatal road collision if you’re not wearing this life-saving piece of equipment.

“The consequences of not wearing a belt when involved in a collision are potentially horrific.

“Those caught not using the life-saving device can be fined up to £500.”
