AMATEUR drama groups will battle it out in the ever popular Welwyn Drama Festival from Monday until Saturday.

The 75th anniversary of the well-known one-act play competition will take place at Campus West Theatre, in WGC.

A total of 13 groups from across the UK will represent some of the best talents in amateur drama.

All will compete in front of adjudicator Rex Walford, who will announce the festival winner on the last night of the performances.

The packed programme of one-act plays will feature comedy to heart rending stories aiming to thrill and excite the audience.

Festival entries include plays from well-known playwrights Harold Pinter and Neil Simon and a host of other contemporary writers.

Festival marketing director Caroline Wilson said: "It's worth giving up a night in front of the TV to experience the heady atmosphere and tangible drama that only live theatre can deliver.

"The Welwyn Drama Festival just might get you hooked."

Tickets cost 9.50 for each evening.
