THE new drop-in centre in Hatfield town centre is up and running – and the Welwyn Hatfield Times will have reporters based there.

The one-stop shop – or Hatfield Hub – opened two weeks ago.

It was funded by money from the Portas Pilot bid and is being overseen by the Town Team.

It is still early days, but so far as well as the Welwyn Hatfield Times, Welwyn Hatfield Council, Hertfordshire Constabulary and Hatfield Town Council have all signed up to have people in the shop at certain times during the week.

Natalie Sullivan, Hatfield town centre co-ordinator, will have an office in the hub.

Welwyn Hatfield Times editor Terry Mitchinson said: “We are really pleased the Hatfield Hub is up and running.

“We’ll have reporters based there on Wednesdays, so if anyone has a story to tell us we’d be pleased to welcome you.

“There are exciting times ahead for Hatfield town centre and we hope the hub will play a central role in that future.”

Inspector Ian Grout, of the safer neighbourhood team, said: “We are keen to support the hub and it is an ideal opportunity to have a base in the town centre, and for the public to raise issues with us.”

There will be an official opening in the weeks to come and full details as to who will be there and when will be worked out in the meantime.

The shop is at 56 Town Centre, in White Lion Square.
