Mr Cameron demonstrated his solidarity with Israel in what was dubbed “a rousing speech” to the Israeli parliament, the Knesset today (Wednesday).

Prime Minister Cameron is joined on this visit to Israel by five Conservative MPs - some of the leading supporters of Israel in Parliament – as well as by a business delegation and members of the Holocaust Commission.

The speech was greeted by applause and a standing ovation.

Mr Cameron touched on a number of issues including; his understanding of Israel’s security concerns, his abhorrence at international attempts to delegitimise Israel, his vision of a future peace, his promise to stop Iran acquiring a nuclear weapon and how to tackle the continuing problem of Islamist extremism.

He said: “With me you have a British Prime Minister whose belief in Israel is unbreakable and whose commitment to Israel’s security will always be rock solid.”

James Clappison said: “As Parliamentary chairman of the Conservative Friends of Israel I was honoured to lead a delegation of my Conservative colleagues to Israel for the PM’s landmark visit to the region.

“The Prime Minister’s speech once again confirmed that the Anglo-Israel relationship is stronger than ever and in David Cameron Israel has a staunch friend and ally.”
