THE 2012 Olympic Games will bring opportunities for businesses in Welwyn Hatfield.

That was the message from experts as businessmen, councillors and the public joined a debate.

It is believed that business from across the borough could become contractors for many different aspects of the games, including building and tourism.

County councillor Chris White, who is also chairman of the cultural, tourism and sport board for the Local Government Association, addressed the meeting last Monday.

He said: "Welwyn Hatfield is close enough to be part of this.

"There is a huge opportunity for business."

Questions about being able to use the 2012 logo and the ability to get involved were asked.

Mr White, however, added: "This is exciting, you don't have to be cynical."

John Fuller, Hertfordshire's co-ordinator for London 2012, added: "This really is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Welwyn Hatfield."

Steve Benson from Business Link said his organisation could help link businessmen to the Olympics with a free-of-charge service.
