AN old town shopping centre is staging a summer picnic fundraiser this weekend.
The Old Hatfield Residents’ Association is holding the event in Salisbury Square today (Saturday) in aid of Hertfordshire Action on Disability (HAD).
From noon to 5pm there will be music, origami, face painting, a children’s quiz and a dog show.
There will also be cultural activities, including an exhibition of photos of Old Hatfield and a tour of Marychurch.
Sporty types will have the chance to play real tennis at Hatfield House, or test their strength in a tug-of-war challenge.
Visitors, who will be welcomed by a Billy Connolly lookalike, are being urged to bring a picnic and deckchairs.
All donations and proceeds from a raffle will go to Welwyn Garden City-based HAD.
The event is being supported by many businesses, including Costcutters, The Mobile Launderette, Eagle Country, GJ Locksmiths, Peta Shaw, Essence Beauty Salon, Hair and Beauty Boutique and restaurants Jaipur, Taste of India and Pizza Palace.
“We’d like to thank all the businesses, residents, local historians Ken Wright and John Hawthorne, the local pubs and also Hatfield Town Council and Welwyn Hatfield Council for supporting us,” said residents’ association chairman Andrew Starr.
