A COUPLE burgled the house of a pensioner after tricking their way into her house.

A man and a woman knocked on the door of the elderly woman's Knightsfield home in WGC and told her they needed somewhere to stay.

After being invited in at around 5pm on Saturday, the pair distracted the woman before they stole money from her purse, ready to be donated to her church.

Both burglars were described as white, while the clean shaven man was believed to be around 25.

He was of medium build with short mousey brown hair and thought to be about 5ft 11in.

The slim, well spoken woman is believed to have been between 23 and 25 and around 5ft 2in.

She is described as having shoulder length mousey brown hair tied into a ponytail and wearing a black coat with a fur lining and dark trousers.

Detective sergeant Joanne Smith described the burglary as an "appalling incident".

She said: "It has left an elderly woman very shaken up.

"I would urge anyone who has any information about the crime or recognises the description of the offenders to come forward."

Anyone with information should contact DS Smith on 0845 33 00 222.
