Under-fives in Welwyn Hatfield are being encouraged into healthier eating habits, thanks to new training for children’s centre staff.

The borough council’s public health and protection team organised a two-day course to provide information about how best to fuel little bodies and minds.

Children’s centre staff were also taught how to run ‘Cook in the Box’ sessions with parents, to improve their confidence when choosing and cooking healthy family meals.

Councillor Fiona Thomson, lead member for health, said: “We know how important it is to get children into healthy eating habits early.

“The more we can do to help staff at children’s centres and their parents understand how to make healthy choices the better.

“Healthy food can be cheap, quick and easy to prepare, and it makes you feel better – setting you on track for a much happier, healthier, and longer, life.

Jane Jackson from Creswick Children’s Centre said: “The practitioners from the Welwyn Garden City Children’s Centre group have attended the nutrition and health and hygiene training.

“This training has enabled them to pass on excellent advice and good practice to the families they work with.”
