267 fires dealt with in Welwyn Hatfield

Firefighters dealt with 267 fires in Welwyn Hatfield last year.
District Commander Rad Bristow presented the data to Welwyn Hatfield councillors last Monday.

Of those 267 fires, 123 were classed ‘primary’ fires, involving properties, such as houses, businesses, hospitals, religious or sporting venues.
In those ‘primary’ fires seven people were injured, but there were no fatalities.
The remaining 144 ‘secondary’ fires involved hedgerows, grassland, bins or wasteland.
Commander Bristow also broke down the data by area, with the most fires being recorded in Hatfield.
Sixty of those primary fires were in Hatfield last year, compared to 15 in Welwyn ad 48 in WGC.
When it came to ‘secondary’ fires, there were 79 in Hatfield, 13 in Welwyn ad 52 in WGC.
During the 12-month period, Commander Bristow said they had conducted 415 ‘safe and well’ visits, which are targeted at vulnerable residents and offer advice on a range of topics.
