THE deadline for entries into a contest that celebrates young unsung heroes has been extended.
The Young People of the Year awards - or YOPEYs - are being held across Hertfordshire for the third time.
A series of regional heats will be followed by a county-wide final, with thousands of pounds in prize money up for grabs.
Young people in Potters Bar will be competing in their version, with others from the rest of Hertsmere, Watford and Three Rivers.
The original deadline has been put back a month, and entries will now close on Friday, February 29.
n For more information and to nominate, log on to www.yopey.org or write to PO Box 103, Hare Street, Ware SG9 0XD, enclosing an SAE, for a paper entry form.
Entrants need to live, work or study in Hertfordshire, are aged 10 to 25, and 'give to others'.
n Among the entries so far is sporting dynamo Lisa Hayhoe.
The 18-year-old, of Cambridge Drive, Potters Bar, has volunteered her services to help people in a variety of sports such as football, netball, swimming, athletics and hockey.
She is a coach at Watford FC's Centre of Excellence, an academy for girls, where she coaches the under-14s, and has helped with the selection process.
Lisa was also part of Herts FA's volunteer talent scheme where she gave unpaid help at a variety of footballing events throughout 2007.
