A COUNCILLOR who failed to show up at meetings was asked not to re-stand in last month's election.

Nicola Dorrington moved abroad during her term representing Hatfield East.

The Tory councillor did not attend any council meetings after November 12, 2007, effectively not serving her ward for six months.

A council spokeswoman did however, confirm that Ms Dorrington received her £4,630 in members' annual allowances.

Welwyn Hatfield Conservative's agent Benedict McAleenan said that Ms Dorrington did not fulfil the role expected of her, so was asked to stand down.

He said: "There are two other ward councillors in Hatfield East who were representing and attending meetings.

"It's not so much that there was nobody representing residents but we understand the concern and have acted."

The news came to light after the WHT received records showing all attendance figures for the last year.

Ms Dorrington had one of the lowest rates - 33 per cent, with Labour's Colin Croft on 45 per cent, and Tory Martyn Levitt on 50 per cent.

During the 2007/08 term Hatfield East residents were represented by councillors Mike Long and Bernard Sarson.

The ward was rejigged this year after boundary changes.
