MORE upheaval as moves are made to centralise hospital services will not be accepted by staff OR patients, a union representative has said.

Anne Wells, Royal College of Nursing council member and lead steward, said: "We know that neither healthcare staff nor patients can tolerate further uncertainty, but that the current status quo is not an option.

"The RCN will now seek to work together with management on a timetable for consultation, and to manage the changes in partnership to make sure that staff and the local community will be fully informed when the decision is made."

Ms Wells said members had attended meetings to campaign to protect services and jobs.

She added: The local community is feeling uncertain about access to future healthcare services and all parties need to work together to get the best possible deal for patients and staff.
