A NINE-YEAR-OLD boy was left with serious head injuries after he was involved in a road accident.

The young cyclist suffered the injuries after colliding with a dark grey Peugeot on Mymms Drive, Brookmans Park, at around 2.30pm on Bank Holiday Monday.

He was taken to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London - but a spokeswoman told the WHT it was hoped he would be transferred to the Lister Hospital in Stevenage today (Tuesday).

She said: "We can confirm that the patient was brought to its intensive care unit yesterday.

"The patient is doing well and the plan is to transfer him to his local hospital today."

The driver of the vehicle is alleged to have failed to stop at the scene of the accident - and police are now appealing for witnesses.

Sgt Peter Scholes of the central roads policing unit, said: "I am appealing to anyone who may have seen this incident or knows anything about it to contact us as a matter of urgency."

Anyone with information should call Sgt Scholes or Pc Karl Goulding on 0845 33 00 222.

* A 20-year-old man from Hatfield was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

He has been bailed until August.
