A TROUBLED nightspot is set to get a new name and a new set of rules.

Police were so concerned with the Kandi Bar in Hatfield's reputation they asked for a change in its licence from Welwyn Hatfield Council.

Councillor Colin Couch, chairman of the council's licensing committee, told both the current owners and the prospective buyer that things could not carry on as they were.

He said: "We are extremely concerned about what has gone on - 173 police officers have attended in 14 months."

The police decided to work in partnership with the town centre nightspot, which is popular with students.

Cllr Couch added: "It's because the police have supported your future activities, that we are going to support the police by not revoking but imposing conditions.

"If this problem continues that will not be dealt with so lightly, it's really attitude of the police that has allowed us to be relatively lenient."

Conditions including drinks not served in glass, licensed door staff, a new CCTV system and allowing police access at all times, have been imposed.
