NEW powers to regulate lap dancing and strip clubs have been introduced in Welwyn Hatfield.
Welwyn Hatfield Council has adopted a new law which gives local authorities more power to control the number and location of “sexual entertainment venues” in the area.
Under the Policing and Crime Act 2009, which came into force in April this year, venues such as lap dancing clubs and strip bars need to apply to the council for a sexual entertainment licence – giving councils potentially wider grounds to refuse permission.
The new powers were adopted during a full council meeting at Campus West last week.
Councillor Mandy Perkins said: “It’s important we pro actively seek to adopt the powers available to us.”
