New parking restrictions in Welwyn Garden City

NEW parking restrictions close to a town centre are set to be brought in on Monday, which could catch out unsuspecting drivers.

Resident parking permits are set to begin in Parkway Close, Barleycroft Green and parts of Parkway in WGC, meaning previous one hour parking bays will be out of bounds to shoppers.

Barleycroft Green and Parkway Close previously had no restrictions, and according to Welwyn Hatfield Council caused residents ongoing issues with shoppers and commuters taking up valuable spaces.

Parkway, from its junction with Church Road to the junctions with Barleycroft Road and Birdcroft Road, will have new “dual-use” bays which the public can park in for a maximum of two hours and residents permit holder can park unlimited.

Councillor Colin Couch, speaking on behalf of the council, said: “Residents in the area have been burdened by people parking in these roads for years.
“They have often been unable to park near their homes and have sometimes even been blocked in by people parking there to access the town centre.

“We have worked closely with residents to come up with this scheme that fulfils their needs.”

*The hours of operation on both Parkway and Parkway Close will be from 8am until 6pm.

*The hours of operation in Barleycroft Green will be from 9am until 5pm.
