A new inspector has been appointed to take charge of neighbourhood policing across Welwyn Hatfield.

Inspector Jeff Scott, who has been with Hertfordshire Constabulary since 1995, has inherited the role of Safer Neighbourhood Inspector from Ian Grout, who held it for five years.

He said: “I am looking forward to continuing the good work of Ian Grout and working closely with our partner agencies in the Welwyn Hatfield Community Safety Partnership towards a safer borough.

“I am keen to ensure that our team is engaging effectively to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, catch criminals and keep our community safe.”

The new neighbourhood inspector has been successful in battling crime in St Albans, and has helped the county force deal with the 2012 Olympic Games and the 2011 London riots.

His team of police officers and PCSOs works with councils and the fire service to find long term solutions to community problems such as anti-social behaviour.
