A NEW mayor of Hatfield was chosen last week after a surprise resignation from the deputy mayor.

Caron Juggins ended her stint as mayor by handing over the reins of power to Linda Clark last Wednesday.

Mrs Clark accepted the position after her husband and deputy mayor, Mick Clark, stepped aside due to an on-going health problem.

Normally the deputy inherits the title when the mayor’s year ends.

Mr Clark said: “I have reluctantly had to decline this as I have a health problem, not a serious one, but it would effect my job as mayor.”

Mrs Clark said: “I am very pleased to be the mayor again and I very much look forward to the coming year, to meeting people and to hopefully raising the profile of the town council.

“I enjoyed it very much last time and it’s very interesting to go and see all the things that are going on.”

Mrs Clark was previously mayor from May 2010 to May 2011.
