FOOD lovers with a fondness for Caribbean or Portuguese flavours no longer have to travel far and wide for their fix.

Because thanks to Jermaine Wiggins, there’s now all the peri-peri, jerk, and rice and peas you need in WGC.

The 25-year-old has launched new mobile food outlet Peri-Jerk, selling all your favourite cuisines from both Portugal and the Caribbean in Hyde Valley, off Cole Green Lane.

The venture came out of Jermaine’s desire to run his own food business and to bring some of his own favourite meals to Times Territory.

And as a dedicated gym goer himself, he’s hoping he can entice other fitness fanatics with his healthy, freshly-grilled menu.

“I found over the years there’s nowhere in WGC to get quick, healthy food,” said Jermaine.

“Me and my group of friends go out a lot and we eat out lots.

“We love Caribbean food and sometimes we would drive into London just to get some.

“It’s healthy food for people who go to the gym, as well as a lot of the people from ethnic minorities who live in the area now.

“But I hope there’s something for everyone.”

Jermaine decided to realise his dream of running his own business after being made redundant at Christmas.

Now, with financial backing from dad Norman and mum Kim, who also makes cakes for the business, Jermaine is hoping Peri-Jerk becomes a big hit in WGC and beyond.

“It’s an idea I’ve had for years now, and it took me getting made redundant to get it off the ground,” he said.

“I was fed up being in dead-end jobs and wanted to start something for myself, and with the help of my family we’ve made it a goer.

“We’re not in a prime location so getting the word out has been a bit difficult.

“We’ve built up a little customer base so we’re going to stay here for a while and see how it goes.

“If a pitch became available in the town centre, or maybe a shop, then we’d definitely try and grow the business. That’s the general plan.”

Peri-Jerk is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 5pm to 10.30pm and on Friday and Saturday until 11pm.

Jermaine offers daily specials and accepts phone orders.
