MYSTERY surrounds the death of a ram, initially feared to have been burned, police have said.

Hertfordshire Constabulary initially told the Welwyn Hatfield Times it believed the ram’s death, at Tewin Water, near Welwyn Garden City, was caused by it being set on fire in a sick arson attack.

But today (Tuesday) the force said it had not confirmed whether the animal had been deliberately burned, or whether there were other causes for the injuries.

A police spokeswoman said “We’re not ruling anything out about how the sheep could have died.

“There might have been another cause.

“Initially it did appear to be arson.”

She said officers were still treating the ram’s demise as a ‘suspicious incident’.
