A STREET was cordoned off after a man was found lying in the middle of a road with a head injury.

The 36-year-old man from Hatfield was discovered by police in St Peters Close, behind Hatfield Swim Centre, shortly before 9am last Wednesday.

The man was taken by ambulance to the QE2 Hospital with a cut to the head.

Hertfordshire Highways cordoned off a large pool of blood while a specialist clean up team was called in.

Neighbour Robert Palmer said he saw the police and ambulance turn up from his ground-floor flat.

He said: "I saw them help him up, he had a large cut above his eye."

The 53-year-old Asda worker said: "I'd just got home, if I'd been a few minutes later I could've seen what happened."

Police carried out door-to-door enquiries but confirmed they were unclear as to how the man, who was released from hospital the same day, received his injuries.
