ADVANCEMENTS in fingerprint technology have allowed detectives to identify a woman whose death near Potters Bar remained a mystery for almost 20 years.

Lesley Ann Pickavance died after being struck by several vehicles while attempting to cross the M25 near Junction 23, at South Mimms, on July 27, 1990.

At the time, a large-scale media appeal failed to identify her or locate any of her relatives.

But after re-opening the case earlier this year, detectives were able to find a fingerprint match and advise Lesley Ann’s family, who are from Bedford, of her death.

A police spokeswoman said: “The family, though shocked to learn of Lesley Ann’s death, were glad to have some closure over her disappearance.”
