THE jury in the Mark Russell and Kelly Sanchez murder trial are due to resume their deliberations today.

The six men and six women deciding the fate of the pair accused of killing John Redhead were unable to reach a verdict after the first day of discussions before the Easter break.

Mark Russell, 31, of Chester Close, Little Heath, admitted stabbing Mr Redhead four times, but claimed he did so in self-defence.

Mr Redhead, a father-of-two, was seen with a carving knife sticking out of him on CCTV from the Murco petrol station on Barnet Road, Potters Bar.

One of the four blows punctured his heart.

Russell claims he went to talk Mr Redhead but a gun was pointed at him.

The prosecution told St Albans Crown Court that Kelly Sanchez, 21, of Mutton Lane, Potters Bar, was the cause of the murder.

She had been having sex with Russell but called Mr Redhead her boyfriend.

Prosecutor Anne Evans said Sanchez egged Russell on before the pair ran away from the scene.

Sanchez is accused of aiding and abetting Russell.

Both deny the charges
