Several devoted mothers have been nominated as Parent in a Million in the Welwyn Hatfield Times Community Awards.

The awards aim to recognise the people making a difference in our homes, schools and communities through a wealth of categories.

But for so many of us, it all starts with the long-suffering person who, as one nominator puts it, “is just one hell of a good parent”.

These are the words of Terry McCormack, who nominated Aimee for how brilliantly she cares for her five children, even with very challenging life circumstances.

Aimee, 29, manages to juggle community work with parenting.

“She always puts her children first,” said Terry.

But Aimee, who lives in WGC, also gives back through her work collecting and distributing food parcels for the homeless with Aimee’s Community Project.

Andrew Craig has nominated his mother Janice Mawhinney, 63, from Potters Bar because she’s “one in a million”, he said.

“She is always there for me and the whole of her family, and willing to help you with any problems you may have.”

Childminder Alison Seagrave, 42, from Hatfield has been nominated out of gratitude for the extensive care she gives her 15-year-old daughter Chloe, who has mental health struggles. “I would like to show her that people care so much about her and that people realise just how much she does,” said Chloe.

These are just a few of the people nominated as selfless parents.

But no matter how someone has affected your life for the better, there is a category you can nominate them in.

Whether it’s your children’s school, a wonderful neighbour, a valiant volunteer or charity hero, a young achiever, or someone who has served their community as a role model with a lifetime of service - there are umpteen ways to let them know their work is appreciated.

But there are just eight days left to nominate, with a deadline on June 15.

To nominate, just visit the website and fill out a simple form with your best reasons.

There will be a gala event for the awards ceremony on July 13.
