Mum's the word at Hatfield support group
PUBLISHED: 08:00 23 October 2016
Three mums are launching a support group for parents of children with autism, ADHD and related conditions in Hatfield.
SPACE (Supporting Parents of Children with Autism/Attention Deficit Disorder and related conditions) was launched in Welwyn by Susanna Mateu, Angela Gaughan and Karen Spencer in May, and have now received funding to launch it in Hatfield.
Angela has an eight-year-old son with Austism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Karen has a seven-year-old son with ASD and Susanna has a seven-year-old son with ADHD.
Susanna said: “Following the success of the launch of SPACE Welwyn, we identified the need for another support group based in Hatfield.
“The lack of a direct bus route from Hatfield to the Welwyn group made it difficult for some of the parents who really needed support to be able to attend.”
The first meeting will be on Friday, October 21 from 10am to 12pm, at De Havilland Children’s Centre on Travellers Lane. There will be a guest speaker at every meeting, and the first speaker will be Rachael Brett from Kids Hub. Meetings will be held on the third Friday of every month, during term-time only.
SPACE Hatfield has been funded by DSPL (Delivering Special Provision Locally) Area 5 for Welwyn Hatfield, which has enabled the mums to run the group as well as seminars and social events for parents and children.
