Welwyn Hatfield MP Grant Shapps has said plans to develop housing on Panshanger airfield in Welwyn Garden City should be rejected if they fail to include a “mixed approach” at an imminent consultation.

As part of the Local Plan the site off Herns Lane was listed as a “favourable” location by the borough council.

The consultation will take place tomorrow between 3.30pm and 6.30pm at The Fairway Tavern in Panshanger Golf Course, off Herns Lane.

Plans will also be displayed on Saturday between 10am and 2pm at Sir Frederic Osborn School sports hall in Herns Lane.

Mr Shapps said most residents want the airfield maintained and are “alarmed” at plans to “prevent aviation forever” in the borough.
