MP slams ‘skewed’ results of Panshanger airfield feedback

Welwyn Hatfield MP Grant Shapps has said the public consultation regarding Panshanger Aerodrome was “one of the most deeply flawed and unimpressive consultation exhibitions Welwyn Hatfield has ever seen”.
Landowners Mariposa Investments and the Homes and Communities Agency held two exhibitions regarding the Welwyn Garden City site last month, and recently released findings from its feedback.
It concluded that due to minimal support for moving the airstrip, it plans to press ahead with plans to build up to 1,000 houses without the inclusion of aerodrome facilities.
Mr Shapps, a self-professed aviation enthusiast, described the consultation’s results as “skewed” and “virtually worthless”.
“By running second-rate so-called engagement exercises, the landowner does themselves no favours in trying to create the kind of mixed use development that Welwyn Hatfield truly deserves and that the Government would support,” he said.
He added his opinion will ultimately be moulded by residents’ views, but he would like an to see an airfield in the site’s northern area.
