Welwyn Hatfield’s MP has welcomed a drop in Welwyn Hatfield unemployment.
"I’d say that the job is not yet done, but new figures from the Office for National Statistics show our long-term economic plan is working."
Tory party chairman Grant Shapps’ praise comes as The International Monetary Fund looks set to increase its growth predictions for the UK and the national unemployment rate dropped.
The Office of National Statistics’ figures show that in December 2013 the number of job- seekers in Welwyn Hatfield fell to 1.8 per cent.
In December 2012 it was 2.2 per cent.
Mr Shapps thinks the Coalition Government needs to “cement the recovery” to restore Britain’s finances to a pre-recession level.
He told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “I’d say that the job is not yet done, but new figures from the Office for National Statistics show our long-term economic plan is working.
“We’ve seen the biggest ever rise in the number of people in work since records began.
“The number of unemployed claimants in Welwyn Hatfield in December was down to 2.5 per cent.
“And each new job means another person in Welwyn Hatfield is taking home a pay packet helping them to provide for themselves and their families.”
