A MAN is said to be in a ‘critical’ condition after a freak accident where he was run over by his own car, in WGC this afternoon (Tuesday).

The accident happened at around 2.45pm, in the forecourt of car repair garage Kwik-Fit, in Bridge Road East.

Police have cordoned off the entrance to the garage and part of Bridge Road East, from the junction of Bessemer Road up to the entrance of the Esso garage.

A police spokeswoman said the accident involved a dark blue Vauxhall Astra saloon.

His condition was described as ‘critical’ by ambulance spokesman Gary Sanderson, who said: “On arrival, the man was being cared for by members of the public and he was in a serious condition. Paramedics rapidly treated and stabilised him at the roadside before he was taken to an awaiting trauma team at the QE2 hospital.”

Gary added: “The paramedics at the scene would like to pass on their sincere thanks to the members of public who administered first aid before their arrival, it was very much appreciated.”
