More cash for Splashlands in Welwyn Garden City

CONTROVERSIAL plans for a splash park to replace a former thriving outdoor swimming pool at Stanborough Lakes are still set to be pushed through, despite the current economic climate.

Welwyn Hatfield councillors agreed on Tuesday for a new lead consultant to be appointed, after the company originally chosen downsized its UK operation and was unable to complete the final stage of its contract with the council.

The £90,000 cost of employing the new contractor would be met from the exisiting Splashlands budget, which totals £3.2m.

Asked why the council was not putting the project on hold until more prosperous times, a spokeswoman said: “The decision to pursue a project at the former Splashlands site was a promise made by members to fully investigate something exciting and engaging for children and young people.”
