On Sunday, December 9, shoppers at the Howard Centre can marvel at several model railways set up by the Stevenage and District Model Railway Club and De Havilland Model Railway Society.

Between 11am and 4pm there will be a shunting puzzle for kids to try out, as well as a special layout of vintage Tri-ang pieces dating from the 1960s and 1970s, among other displays.

A donations box, which raised about £100 last year, will be there for people to show their appreciation.

Money goes towards Isabel Hospice in memory of a wife of one of the club members.

Organiser Keith Stalley said: “Last year it was very busy, we got a lot of pleasant comments and the shops were happy because business actually went up!”

The event in 2017 also attracted three new club members, and one member has even taken part in Channel 5’s Great Model Railway Challenge.

So if you’re looking for a new hobby, or just love seeing those tiny trains travel through wee little villages, get down to the Howard Centre on Sunday, December 9.

The display will be located in the stretch outside Boots and WHSmiths.
