Revised plans for a major extension to Welwyn Garden City were met with both criticism and qualified approval when they were exhibited to local people.

Quarrying company Tarmac, which heads a development consortium, unveiled its latest blueprint for “Birchall Garden Suburb”, 2,500 homes with associated

facilities immediately west of the A414, at the Homestead Court Hotel.

Althogh residents told the Welwyn Hatfield Times they were concerned at the size of development, several compared it favourably with Mariposa’s plan for Panshanger Aerodrome, also exhibited recently.
