Mill Green Museum and Mill has received a £2k grant from SHARE Museums East to conduct a full review and audit of its archaeology collection.
Among its 2,000 items are a medieval iron dagger dated from around the 1500s, a Roman coin stamped with the bust of Hadrian from 117-138 AD and a hand axe from WGC, which could be up to 250,000 years old.
Councillor Tony Kingsbury, executive member for policy and culture, said: “We owe a massive debt of gratitude to SHARE Museums East for awarding us this grant.
“It will enable us to thoroughly delve into our collection and document everything we own, and there are some very important pieces of local heritage in our possession.”
SHARE Museums East offers a range of grants each year to support museums. It is hoped that this new audit will benefit visitors, as more archaeological material will be available to view.
