MAYOR Carl Storer is recovering after suffering a mini-stroke.

Now on the road to recovery, Welwyn Hatfield's first citizen has blamed his collapse partly on his heavy workload.

Councillor Storer said: "I woke up and the world collapsed.

"I had a mini-stroke.

"I was rushed to the Lister Hospital and stayed there for three days.

"I didn't have much use of my left hand and arm, but I'm nearly 100 per cent back now.

"I'm taking it very easy, I can guarantee you that."

Cllr Storer believes that the stress of being mayor had taken its toll, as it had on many previous mayors and chairmen of the council.

He said predecessors had often become ill before their year's term of office was up.

The mayor's duties are currently being carried out by his deputy Mick Long.
