The Masonic Lodges of Welwyn Garden City and Knebworth donated the money to the Mixed Group for the charity meal, which will be held on Christmas Day for elderly people in the community who would otherwise be on their own.

For the meal, elderly residents will be picked up from their homes by volunteer drivers and served a three-course meal including soup with a roll and butter, a turkey dinners and dessert with tea and coffee.

The Mayor will also attend briefly, and MP Grant Shapps will say grace in Hebrew and English before the meal.

Seán Cox, of the Mixed Group, said: “Volunteers will make up fresh rounds of sandwiches for them to take home. They will receive a bag with mince pies, panettone, Christmas cake and wrapped gifts.”

The Mixed Group has been running for 45 years.
