A woman has been found guilty of driving without due care and attention after hitting a cyclist in Welwyn Garden City.

Martina Carty had been driving a Vauxhall Zafira at the time of the offence in Broadwater Crescent on September 24 last year.

The 31-year-old drove on to a roundabout at the junction with Broadwater Road and collided with the cyclist who was travelling around the roundabout.

The cyclist suffered a wound to her elbow, bruising to the left leg, grazes to the abdomen and left hand.

The bike had a buckled rear wheel and broken gear selector.

Carty’s car was left with minor scratches to the front driver’s side.

Carty did not appear at Stevenage Magistrates’ Court when her case was heard on April 12.

It was subsequently proved in her absence.

Carty, of Wardown Crescent, Luton, was fined £440.

She was ordered to pay victim services £44 and costs of £85.

Six penalty points were issued.
