A FOOTBALL signed by Manchester United's 1968 European Cup winning team - including the likes of Sir Bobby Charlton, George Best and manager Sir Matt Busby - is being auctioned for charity by a Knebworth woman.
Margaret Palmer is selling the football on auction website eBay to raise funds for ActionAid.
Not only is the 61-year-old. pictured, raising funds for the anti-poverty charity, but she’ll also be finding out how they use that cash first-hand.
For in the new year she will be travelling to Marafa, Kenya, to help build much-needed classrooms for a primary school.
Margaret began supporting ActionAid a decade ago, initially sponsoring a child in the African country. Now she has decided it is about time she saw the charity’s work for herself.
She said: “I have supported ActionAid’s work in Kenya for about 10 years and had often heard about the trips they offer.
“I really felt like getting more involved; not only to raise money but also to experience what life is really like in Kenya.”
Margaret, of Watton Road, needs to raise £3,000 in sponsorship for the trip, and is hoping the eBay auction will go a long way to that target.
The ball was brought out by the Old Trafford club in 1993, to mark the 25th anniversary of the historic win. Margaret was given the ball by a friend, to auction off.
“I hope this piece of football history finds a new home, while ultimately helping to build a primary school that will improve learning for hundreds of children in Marafa,” she added.
The auction will close just after 8pm on Monday. Click on the link above to bid.
