A MAN was taken to hospital on a spinal board after being trapped in a car following a crash on the A1(M).

The accident happened at around 3.20pm yesterday (Tuesday), on the motorway’s northbound carriageway between junction six Welwyn and junction seven Stevenage.

At least three cars were involved in the collision, which caused long delays on the A1(M) heading north.

One man was left trapped in one of the vehicles, and had to be cut out by firefighters before being taken to the Lister Hospital.

Ambulance service spokesman Gary Sanderson, who attended the collision said: “The man was trapped in the car by the wreckage and he received slight injuries.

“The ambulance crews worked extremely well with the police and fire service to treat, stabilise and immobilise him before he was removed from the car on a spinal board as a precautionary measure.”
