Man threatened people with machete and firearm in Welwyn Garden City

Police have confirmed that a man who threatened people in Welwyn Garden City was brandishing a machete and a firearm.
Police were called following an incident at an address in Welwyn Garden City at around 11.30am on Monday, April 4.
It was reported that a man was in possession of a machete and a firearm and had threatened a group of people inside the address while attempting to gain entry. The man then left the scene.
Shortly after midday, the man was located by officers in Daniells. He was quickly detained and remains in police custody at this time.
A firearm was located inside a van parked in the area which was later discovered to be an imitation.
No members of the public were injured during the incident.
Detective Inspector John Hazeldine, from the Welwyn Hatfield Local Crime Unit, said: “I understand this incident may have caused concerns for people who were in the area at the time as well as the wider public.
“I would like to reassure you that the incident was dealt with swiftly and safely by specially trained officers and investigations are continuing.
“At this stage, we believe it to be an isolated incident. As a man has been arrested, it would be inappropriate for us to comment further.”
