AN investigation is under way after a man was seriously injured in a fall from the roof of a Potters Bar community centre.

Police and paramedics were called to Elm Court Youth Centre in Mutton Lane just after 7am on Saturday.

A 24-year-old man fell through a skylight and suffered serious head injuries upon landing on the floor of the Costume Store, a theatrical dress hire company managed by Jenny Colledge and Suzanne Sive.

Jenny said the pair arrived at the centre at 3pm that afternoon to find the skylight broken.

“We came down at 3pm that afternoon to find the remains of it,” said Jenny. “I hope he’s OK.”

Tom Shirley, chairman of trustees at Elm Court, said: “Somehow he’s got through the skylight. The whole thing is very strange.”

Police initially declared the site a crime scene and cordoned off the community centre, before the man was airlifted to the Royal Free Hospital in London.

A police spokeswoman said: “Police were called to the Elm Court Youth and Community Centre at 7.08am by the ambulance service to reports a man had fallen from the roof.

“Ambulance and police were in attendance and a 24-year-old man was taken to the Royal Free Hospital in London for treatment.

“As a matter of procedure the area was cordoned off for a time and scenes of crime officers were in attendance. “The investigation is ongoing.

“As far as we know he is still in hospital and until we can talk to him there’s not a lot more we can do.”
