Man praised after family saved from Hatfield flat fire

A MAN has been praised after he helped rescue a baby and a young child from a fire in a block of flats in Hatfield.

Paul Stephens, 42, scaled the wall of the building in Briars Lane at around 10.30am yesterday morning (Sunday), after he spotted smoke billowing from a window on the first floor.

After reaching the apartment he calmed down the five panicked occupants, namely three ladies and two young boys, as firefighters raised ladders to rescue them.

No-one was injured in the fire, which started accidentally.
