A TEENAGER was killed when the car he was travelling in crashed on the A1(M).

At 7.25pm on Friday a blue Renault Clio spun off the southbound carriageway near junction 6, at Welwyn.

A passenger in the car, an 18-year-old man from London, died at the scene.

Three other occupants in the car were taken to the Lister Hospital, in Stevenage, with injuries. Their conditions are not yet known.

The motorway was closed for two-and-a-half hours while emergency services and road crash investigators worked at the scene. It was re-opened at 10pm.

Police are appealing for witnesses and information.

Andy Ralph, from Hertfordshire Constabulary’s road crash investigation unit, said: “I am appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and can help explain what happened to come forward.

“Those with information can contact me via the non-emergency number 101.”
