Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to free one person involved in a crash between a lorry and a red Citroen Nemo.

Firefighters from Borehamwood, Potters Bar and St Albans attended the scene on the A1 Barnet Bypass near the South Mimms roundabout.

A police spokeswoman told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “Police were called at 1.51pm today to the A1(M) northbound at Junction 1 to reports of a two-vehicle collision.”

Firefighters administered trauma care until an ambulance arrived.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a 999 call at 1.42pm today after reports that a man had been injured in a two-vehicle collision on the A1 near South Mimms.

“An ambulance, rapid response vehicle and an ambulance officer were dispatched to the scene and provided care to the man, thought to be in his 50s, for chest, leg and head injuries.

“After care at the scene from our crews, he was conveyed to the Lister Hospital for further treatment.
