A man in his twenties was taken to St Mary’s Hospital, London, following a crash on the A1(M) southbound carriageway this morning.

A police spokesman said: “We were called at 7.45am this morning to Junction 1 (junction with the M25) on the southbound carriageway.

“It was a road traffic collision involving one vehicle and the driver had sustained a head injury.

“An ambulance crew attended and the man in his 20s was taken to St Mary’s hospital and is in a stable condition.

“A passenger in the vehicle was also injured and taken to Barnet Hospital.”

Highways England reported that the A1(M) was closed at Junctions 2 and 3 and there was heavy traffic queuing in the tunnel.

The road has since reopened.
