A MAN has died after an accident outside a car repair garage in WGC.

The 76-year-old died at the QE2 Hospital in WGC after a freak accident yesterday afternoon (Tuesday), in the forecourt of the Kwik-Fit garage in Bridge Road East.

It is believed the man, from WGC, was manoeuvring his blue Vauxhall Astra around the entrance to the garage at around 2.45pm, when he somehow became trapped between the car and a wall next to the site.

Police closed an eastbound section of Bridge Road East between Broadwater Road and Tewin Road for around two and a half hours, while the car was recovered and road crash investigators attended the scene.

The man was taken to the QE2 Hospital in a critical condition, but later died of his injuries.

A Kwik Fit spokesman said: “Our thoughts are for the motorist and his family at this time, and we are doing everything we can to help the police understand what happened.”

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, but police are appealing for witnesses to determine how the tragedy happened.
