Police are appealing for witnesses after a man attempted to take a 16-year-old girl’s bag in Hatfield.

The girl was walking along Comet Way at around 4.50pm, on Wednesday, November 4, and while crossing the road near the police station, the offender approached her from behind and tried to take her bag.

At this point a cyclist knocked into the offender, which caused him to fall to the ground, before he fled.

The suspect is described as an Asian man, aged in his late 20s to early 30s, between 5ft 9ins and 6ft 2ins tall, and of a stocky build.

PC Shaun Buchanan is investigating, and said: “I would appeal to the cyclist to contact me as they may well have witnessed the incident itself or have vital information as part of the investigation.

“I would also appeal to anyone who was driving or walking in the area at the time and saw what happened to contact me.”

Anyone with information should call Herts Police on the non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference number B2/15/4239.
