Police looking for a firearm stopped and searched a car in Welwyn Garden City.

The driver of a white BMW was travelling along the A414 at 4.23am today, and police believed that he was in possession of a firearm and other weapons.

After police pursued the car it stopped in a garage block in New Wood, Welwyn Garden City, and all four of the car’s occupants were detained and searched by officers.

A knife was found inside the car and the driver, a 25-year-old man from Hoddesdon, was arrested on suspicion of possessing an article with a blade or sharp point.

He received a caution before being released.

No firearm was found.
