One man has been arrested after an early morning pursuit went wrong for the would-be getaway driver.

Police officers first spotted the car around 5.10am this morning (Monday) while on patrol in High Street, Codicote.

When they attempted to stop the vehicle, it took off down Codicote Road in the direction of Welwyn.

Unfortunately for the driver he lost control of the green Volkswagen and hit a lamppost.
