A man has been arrested after allegedly throwing food at members of staff and smashing a glass shelf in a Hatfield bakery this afternoon.

Police were called to Simmons Bakers in Hatfield Town Centre, at 12.02pm today following reports that a man had verbally abused a member of staff.

A police spokeswoman said: “On arrival, it was alleged that the man had smashed a glass shelf and thrown food at staff members.

“A 46-year-old man from Hatfield was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and is currently in police custody.

“No one was injured during the incident.”

Update 07/07/2017: The man has now been released under further investigation.
