A man and a woman suffered serious injuries following a crash in Hatfield in the early hours of this morning.

A police spokesman said officers were called to reports that a car had collided with a barrier in North Orbital Road at 12.05am.

An ambulance service spokesman said: “We dispatched two rapid response vehicles, two ambulance crews, an ambulance officer, hazardous area response team (HART), and a medical response car from the East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) charity.

“At the scene two patients were assessed – one male and one female.

“The man was treated for a serious head injury and after he was sedated at the scene, taken to St Mary’s Hospital in a serious condition.

“The woman was also treated for a head injury and was taken to Lister Hospital in a stable condition.”

The southbound and northbound slip roads for the A1(M) by Junction 3 were both closed, before reopening at about 3.45am.
